Harpist Lavinia Meijer has entered into an exclusive contract with Sony Classical International. By doing so, Meijer becomes the first Dutch musician with such a contract since the relaunch of the international label. This autumn, the label will present Meijer’s new album with works from the Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi.
“I am very honored to be an exclusive artist of Sony Classical. Together with this label, that is rich in world class musicians, such as Glenn Gould and Yo-Yo Ma, I very much look forward to further shaping my international career.”
In 2012, Meijer made headlines with her rendition of minimalist pieces by Philip Glass on the harp, which earned her a platinum record. This album was the product of good collaboration with the composer, something Meijer has chosen for in her new project with Einaudi. Earlier this year, she met with Einaudi twice, during which she played her interpretation of his pieces.
According to Bogdan Roscic, director of Sony Classical International: “A virtuoso classical harpist with a platinum record: Lavinia Meijer does things in her own way with a clear vision and strong personality. We look forward to helping her along the next steps in her international career.”
