Making the recording in Eindhoven

At the beautiful concert hall of Muziekgebouw Frits Philips Eindhoven I had six days to record this double album in July of 2016. I worked again with the wonderful Tonmeister Andreas Neubronner (winner of several Grammy’s) and this time also with Arthur Antoine on the two pieces with electronics.

Before I go into the studio to record I always take the days before to focus and imagine myself in the studio. I record myself on my own device and listen back carefully, to be able to adjust last details and to know exactly how I want it to sound like.

I first recorded the 10 Etudes by Philip Glass, it took three days. On the fourth day we worked on the pieces with electronics; Nightloops by Ellis Ludwig-Leone and Lift-Off which Arthur Antoine and I made as a remix of Koyaanisqatsi by Philip Glass. The two days after that I worked on recording the other acoustic pieces by Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds, Nico Muhly and the theme of Koyaanisqatsi. In the intermissions I rested, had a bite to eat or went for a run.

On the last day I invited friends over and gave a concert for them with most of the pieces of the album, this has been mixed into the final version.

After the recordings were done I went home with all the recorded music and went through it all (approx. 12 hours of music), selecting the parts I liked the most. I then gave all my comments to Andreas who made the edits. We went back and forth for a couple of days and then finalized this album, which is a very personal journey of the next steps in my career, it definitely brought me closer to myself.
