Making the recording

For my debut album for Sony Classical I had the options to record it in a studio or in a concert hall.

P1010109I decided to choose for one of the best acoustic halls, because the sound of the harp can then sound in all its richness and we could play around with different microphones and distances to create the best atmosphere for Einaudi’s music. I went to Berlin to record in the Main Hall of the former East German radio- and studio complex, Funkhaus. This studio is renowned for its perfect acoustics and has therefore been used to record albums of many greats, including Lang Lang, Sting and Murray Perahia.

The producer was ‘Tonmeister’ Andreas Neubronner, who has received Grammy Awards for 13 of his productions. He used several microphones, placing them in different angles and distances from me, for the basses he added a microphone also used in jazz music. The recording took four days, filled with performing, listening, small discussions and short breaks. On the fourth day I also gave a presentation concert for the staff of Sony Classical and a concert promoter DEAG from Berlin, who then decided to organize a concert tour in Germany next year.
